TO BEE OR NOT TO BEE
Wednesday, August 10th, 2011To Bee or Not To Bee by John Penberthy, told about the spiritual trip of a bee named Buzz in his search for God. Buzz is saturated with routine daily activities – gather honey, improve and protect the nest – began to question the meaning of life which he lived and the existence and influence of God upon him. In his search, he met a wise old bee, Bert. Although not explicitly, Bert helped Buzz in finding answers to all his spiritual questions. In the end, Buzz is able to understand what the meaning of life and the existence of God that he’d been looking for.
It is fitting that this book has been translated into 13 languages. The contents really deep and touching. John Penberthy with a genius capable of ‘translating’ lives and desires of an individual human being into the life of a bee and its colony, makes us feel they do not make any difference to us.
There are many philosophical sentences from the book, such as:
- It is perfect for thinking that life is not perfect.
- The mind is a great servant, but a lousy employer.
- Happiness can not be pursued, but must follow.
- Life is a journey from I to we.
At first thought, this John Penberthy book was about the ‘rich’ who are tired of piling up wealth and hope to find spiritual peace. But this book is actually about the ‘normal’ working day and night saturated for a living and live their lives, who then tried to find answers by doing the spiritual journey. Finally, we need to realize that our current circumstances and what we do today, no matter how boring it is, is a great gift from God that we should be grateful.
